Vision Australia is set to join schools, libraries, bookstores and more tomorrow for National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), thanks to the combined efforts of Vision Australia Radio and the Vision Australia Library.
NSS is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously across the Australia.
Tony Wilson’s Hickory Dickory Dash has been selected as this year’s NSS book and will be read at thousands of locations across Australia at 11am tomorrow, including across the airwaves of Vision Australia Radio.
Vision Australie Library staff have produced a special recording of the book being read to ensure the blind and low vision community have the opportunity to participate in NSS.

Now in its 18th successful year, NSS uses an Australian children's book to:
- promote the value of reading and literacy,
- promote the value and fun of books,
- promote an Australian writer and publisher,
- promote storytime activities in public libraries and communities around the country,
- and provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion.
In 2017, 686,324 people participated in NSS across more than 6,100 locations.
